Everyone has terrarium fever! Erin & Matt from Edwards Greenhouse will teach you how to make tiny desktop gardens from succulents, plants and moss in mason jars. Its like your own miniature oasis that can travel with you, and its easier to care for than your pet rock. Well, almost. Once you know how to make terrariums, you can make larger ones in apothecary jars, large vases or any glass containers. We supply the mason jars, dirt, plants and even little woodland creature cake toppers to inhabit your terrarium.
WHAT: Terrarium Workshop WHEN: Thursday, July 14 6-8 pm WHERE: Bricolage Studios, 280 N. 8th Street, Suite 118 (In the basement of the Idaho Building)

Maybe you’ve seen your sewing machine (sitting in your closet) and thought about saying hello…maybe you’ve even awkwardly tried to get to know it, but became flustered and self-conscious before it actually went anywhere. Meanwhile, in the back of your mind, you have grandiose ideas about all the things you would make and fix and invent, if only you were on speaking terms with that stupid, stupid machine.
WHAT: The Reluctant Seamster: Making friends with your machine WHEN: Sunday, June 26, 2-4pm WHERE: Bricolage Studios, 280 N. 8th Street, Suite 118 (In the basement of the Idaho building)

It’s a good day for seedbombin’

It’s a good day for seedbombin’

April 1, 2011

[Sarcastically]: Oh, hey Spring. Glad you could make it.

Actually, it’s too nice out for sarcasm. You win again, Spring. In honor of this beautiful sunshiny weather, we’d like to take a moment and tell you about Idaho’s only seedbomb vending machine, which sits right outside our door.

We learned about commonstudio‘s “GreenAid” project through a Kickstarter campaign that they did last Summer that enabled them to place machines throughout Los Angeles. We didn’t pledge, because already our wheels were turning about how we might round up enough money to get our VERY OWN vending machine for Boise. The answer, per usual, was right in front of us: Kickstarter! Duh! We waited until Spring to organize a small fundraising campaign, which was hugely successful–we met our goal within 3 days! The result is this awesome machine filled with little bombs of seed, which contain the following species of native grasses and wildflowers:

~Idaho Fescue
~California Poppy
~Russell Lupine
~Five-Spot
~Gayfeather
~Yellow Lupine
~Baby Blue-Eyes
~Chinese Houses
~Lewis Flax
~Blue-Eyed Grass
~Bird’s Eyes
~Tidy Tips
~Farewell to Spring
~Clarkia
~Globe Gilia
~Mountain Phlox

Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? We are super excited to reward the backers of this project who pledged at a $10 level with a handmade slingshot, with which these little dirt clods can be launched. We’re even more excited to be in the planning stages for the private party we’re having sometime in early May for the 15 backers who got in at the $25 level. Meanwhile, we’re selling these little beauties for 50 cents apiece – all proceeds from which will go toward replenishing our supply of bombs, and hopefully investing in another machine for a different location somewhere in Boise.

All that said, we encourage you to greenify your life in whatever way you can. If that means dropping two quarters in our machine, awesome.

See you soon…
